IF YOU want to
feel like home. If you want to feel wanted for yourself and what you are. If
you want to develop your potential. If you want to make the most of your time
as a student. If you want academic excellence and a proper place to grow as an
intellectual, but in the same time a tremendous and vibrating medium to make
memories that will last all your life, that certainly means that you WANT to
come in Newcastle upon Tyne.
My name is Mihail
Pandrea and I study Architecture at Northumbria University, starting this year,
so yes, you guessed, I am a fresher, same as you are.
Making a right
choice is hard, especially when you are having a hard time finding the right
arguments to feel like not regretting a single thing.
Everyone knows it
is hard to find a home away from home, and the 3-days homesick, when you first
come to study away from your native areas and getting to fit in a whole new
society, finding your place between the others,
it is obvious, so do not panic.
I came to
Newcastle with a certain plan set on my mind, so first, if you haven’t done
that already, try getting a piece of paper and write down what comes in your
mind about this city. After few minutes of thinking, and writing, you got all
the hypothetical stereotypes out of your head, then, open your window, breathe
some fresh air, free your mind, get dressed appropriately to the weather and go
out on the city. Follow your instinct, Newcastle is a great place to “get lost
in”. Get on with the atmosphere of the city. Take a break, as there are so many
places to have a snack or a coffee, my favourites being Starbucks, Costa Coffee
and Metro Café Newcastle. Ever wondered starving to death as a student? There
isn’t a single chance in here, as long as the food is cheap, both for you to
cook, finding markets as Tesco or HiYou, but also for you to eat as already
cooked, Newcastle being a paradise for a gourmand, with places such as Eat for
Less, Mc. Donald’s , Burger King, SubWay, Pizza Hut, KFC, Zapatista, Frankie&Benny’s, most of them located on
the main shopping street of Newcastle, just 2 minutes from all the locations of
Northumbria University, Northumberland Road.
